Forum on Preparing Youth for Tomorrow's Jobs
September 22, 2008 By Michael A. Bell, Staff Writer:

A public forum discussing engaging ways to get youth prepared for tomorrow is scheduled for Tuesday, at the Carver Community Center.

A youth forum for local high school students is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by the public forum until 7 p.m.

"I think the main focus of these series of forums for discussion in the community is to get people talking about issues that we can approach from both a global perspective as well as local perspective," said organizer Jessica Ross. "Things like education, or jobs for tomorrow, these are issues a lot of our communities in Alabama are definitely facing."

Residents are asked to "weigh carefully the attractiveness, weaknesses, costs and consequences of differing perspectives on how to approach an issue," according to a news release.

"Most importantly, citizens identify acceptable and unacceptable trade offs among the differing approaches. By identifying what is acceptable and unacceptable, citizens create common ground for potentially more effective action on the issue."

The forum is co-sponsored by the Good Choices Program of the Anniston Parks & Recreation Department, Community Foundation of Calhoun County and the Anniston and Calhoun County Public Library.
