Anniston, Alabama, May 11, 2010. The Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama is pleased to recognize nine area high school graduates with college scholarships. These scholarships were presented throughout the month of May during various awards ceremonies. In addition, ten scholarships were renewed for students currently enrolled in college.
The foundation will host a reception to honor these students and their families on Thursday, May 13th at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, Oxford/Anniston. The students will also have an opportunity to meet the individuals, couples and corporate representatives who made these generous gifts possible.
The 2010 awards totaled $63,500.00 and represent 19 individual scholarships. Each donor has a heartfelt reason for establishing a fund, whether to memorialize a loved one, to recognize the value of their own education or to simply encourage young people to identify their talents and succeed in life.
Scholarship recipients plan to attend colleges including: Jacksonville State University, Huntingdon College, University of Alabama in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa and Auburn University. The Board of Trustees for the Foundation commends these students and wishes them well in their endeavors. “It is our hope that these students will return to this community to live, work and raise their families,” says James Mullis, MD, Board Chairman.
The mission of the Foundation is to encourage and expand permanent charitable resources dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our region. This mission is demonstrated through $15 Million in grants and scholarships offered to the community. To learn more about the Foundation, visit our website, www.yourcommunityfirst.org.
